Last Wednesday, a group of Lincoln students embarked towards Chile, to the school Nido de Aguilas. Apart from having an amazing infrastructure, the school had an incredible and accepting group of students that did everything in their power to make the SAAC participants feel at home. Since Day 1 everyone was set to work, the band and choir students went down to the first floor to the music room to begin putting together all the music they had prepared. For the first time, the drama and visual arts department combined to form one big group that was divided into five smaller ensembles. We had to create a play based on the theme Extreme Present and Harnessing the Future. My group in particular constructed a play on how technology is influencing our future and how we must live in the present.
The first day it felt as if we were going nowhere and just turning in circles over and over again always encountering a problem, by the end of the day we all had headaches and couldn't wait to head home. However, the second day, everything seemed to fall into place. My group was advancing and everything seemed to fall into place. We spent the entire second day constructing props backdrops and developing more ideas and tightening all the details. The performance turned out incredible and I was amazed to see what the other groups had come up with, everyone really came up with eye-opening ideas as to how we should truly live in the moment and let go of the addicting phones we have in our hands. I cannot wait for SAAC Fine Arts next year in Lincoln, and hopefully it can be as amazing as this one.
