Saturday, March 18th, the school held an event known as “Family Fun Day.” The event serves as a way for the Community Service Club to attain donations in order to fund service learning projects. This year, children from the next door community “El Ceibo” joined the event. They participated in the many games which often times had educational purposes, and the kids loved them and were overjoyed.
For the kids from “El Ceibo” the Lincoln community gifted all of them backpacks full with school utensils in order to motivate them to continue to stay in school-- foment their want to learn.
João Pereira Aventura, who also works with a group Lincoln students that teach math at the school in El Ceibo once a week, enjoyed the day with the kids and commented:
“It is always a pleasure to be with our neighbours from El Ceibo, spending time outside of la escuelita with them was a different experience. Together with the good organization [of the event and activities] and the nice climate, the day was very enjoyable”
The event also consisted of a raffle, in which participants from the Lincoln community and the “El Ceibo” community won a variety of things. Finally, there was delicious food made/cooked my students including: choripan, hamburgers, brownies, cupcakes, candy, and ice cream.
Community service club member, Rohit Menghani, commented about the event saying:
